Hey you! Are you looking for a job in which you can develop your programming skills, statistical skills and personal development? Read the blog of Lisanne, data science junior at Gemeente Zaanstad about her choice.
After finishing my master in methods and statistics I was looking for a job in which I could develop both my programming skills as statistical skills. And this off course in combination with outstanding colleagues (in every possible way). On the other hand, I was aware of the fact that this was my first job, and that I probably would have to make some concessions.
However, Xomnia managed to fulfill my wishes from the very beginning of my career. The training on Fridays and guidance of the senior data scientists make my learning curve steep. Besides hard skills, I also learn about the soft skills a data scientist needs. I experience this as a large part of my daily job and, from my point of view, this topic is underexposed during study.
Xomnia considers “gezelligheid” of paramount importance. Because of all my nice colleagues every “vrijdagmiddagborrel” turns into a big party; smoking machine, discobal, tap and pingpong table included (ping pong is the one thing in which Xomnia has a small lack of talent, but I might be able to solve this by teaching them some techniques in an Xpert session 😉)
At the moment I am on a holiday in South Africa, and write this blog sitting on a rock on top of Table Mountain, overlooking Cape Town. I don’t think that it need many words to explain that I’m having a great time here. But at the same time I’m looking forward to get back to work. For me this is the sign that I really like my job. I realize that this sounds very nerdy, but hey, we are data scientists after all..
